Bang Bang 朗朗

Cited from CNN talk Asia

A Grammy-nominated classical pianist who wears personalized trainers, Lang Lang is one-of-a-kind in the world of classical music. The 26-year-old has become a sensation, with a prodigious talent that catapulted him from a childhood in northeastern China to playing to a packed Carnegie Hall in the age of 21. His flamboyant style and bold image has divided critics, but attracts millions – who might be more into MTV than Mozart – to classical music.

His parents were instrumental in pushing him to be a world-famous pianist. However, after his movement to Beijing, tough times were compounded. His teacher took a dislike to him. Far from encouraging a young boy, she consistently told him that he had no talent and kicked him out of school. Then, he experienced a harrowing moment when, in a violent burst-out, his father accused him of ruining his dream of Lang Lang being a great pianist and wanted to throw him out of the tenement building

Lang Lang overcame it and won competitions, especially the pivot chance of appearing with the Chicago Symphony as a last minute replacement. Then after his solo recital in Carnegie Hall, he worked with so many esteemed orchestras and conductors.

One of his biggest achievements is appearing at the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games. He gained more plaudits from his contemporaries than negative reviews. He is able to help inspire others to take up music. He wants to be a UNICEF ambassador.
